Library Mask Requirements

For Your Safety and Ours

Update: 2/28/22 - As of February 28, 2022, due to the expiration of the Illinois Governor's mask mandate, and CDC guidelines - face masks are recommended but are no longer required. CDC mask recommendations

Due to the Illinois Governor’s Executive Order issued, August 26, 2021 (Executive Order 2021-20, COVID-19 Executive Order No. 87), the St. Charles Public Library requires all individuals, vaccinated and unvaccinated, to wear a mask when entering the Library. Mesh masks or face shields are not allowed in the Library. The Library has made reasonable accommodations in order to serve patrons who cannot wear face masks. These accommodations include, contactless service through our drive-through window, access to our online catalog 24/7 to browse and place holds and virtual programs.

In communities where COVID levels are "Substantial" or "High," the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) recommends every person -- regardless of vaccination status -- wear a mask indoors in public settings.

In addition, we ask that you:

  • Stay home if you are sick.
  • Place holds and pick up materials through our drive-up window if you cannot or do not want to wear a mask when visiting the Library.

For more information about COVID-19 transmission by county, visit the CDC website.

The Library's highest priority is following protocol that protects the health and safety of the community. Future updates or changes to our current mask requirements will be communicated via our website and social media channels.
