What's Happening at The Library:

Week of October 12, 2020

  • Exterior Metal Stud Framing
  • Prep/Pour Precast Topping
  • Pour first floor slab
  • Roof framing/blocking (flat roof)
  • Install 2nd floor HM frames

Week of October 5, 2020

  • Start paving Phase 2A
  • Tentatively Striping Phase 2A
  • Exterior framing on 2 story addition
  • Tentatively Install Storm Drain Along North Elevation
  • Prep and pour roof deck at North Addition
  • Start 2nd Floor Metal Stud Framing

Week of September 21, 2020

  • Start paving Phase 2A
  • Tentatively Striping Phase 2A
  • Install misc structural steel
  • Tentatively Install Storm Drain Along North Elevation
  • MEP Coordination continues
  • Start 2nd Floor Metal Stud Framing

Week of September 14, 2020

  • Start curbs Phase 2A
  • Sidewalks to continue Phase 1
  • Layout for curbs
  • Mason onsite to install masonry for mockup
  • Deliver Structural Steel

Week of September 7,2020

  • Form/Pour Reinforce Foundation walls at North Addition
  • Form/Pour Reinforce Foundations for Stairs at Terraced Garden
  • Install misc interior steel
  • Continue Phase 1 Curbs
  • Install West window openings and preform misc tuckpointing

Week of August 24, 2020

  • Finish grade/proof roll parking lot
  • Reinforce footing
  • Mason will be onsite install west new windows & perform tuckpointing
  • Install electrical utility conduits
  • Begin install of some of the new curbs (phase I)

Week of July 6, 2020

  • Install Deep Plumbing Utilities (Water and Sanitary)
  • Form/Pour/Reinforce Ramp Footing/Foundation Walls
  • Continue Phase 1 Site Utilities
  • Continue Phase 1 Site Demo and Grading

Week of June 15, 2020
  • Demo existing stair/mechanical well at existing loading dock
  • Continue to excavate/form/pour reinforce footings at terrance garden and basement
  • Continue asphalt and curb demolition
  • Demolish elevator that was in our main lobby


Week of May 25, 2020
  • More of the exterior demolition will continue
  • Prepping the newly exposed walls from the elements
  • Shoring up the foundation and preparing for new addition

Week of May 18, 2020
  • East exterior wall removed; preparing area for addition
  • Excavating of grounds


Week of May 11, 2020
  • Fence is up and exterior demolition to begin!
  • Abatement work continues inside
  • Still working on demolishing the interior 
  • Construction camera to be up very soon!


Week of May 4, 2020
  • Fence is going up
  • Exterior demolition to start
  • Wrapping up the interior demolition


Week of April 13, 2020
  • The trees we are preserving are being protected from construction.
  • Our beloved VW bus is on real wheels! It will stay in the building while under construction and be “driven” around as needed.
  • The mezzanine study rooms and teen space has been gutted. We are down to bare bones in this space to make way for the 2nd-floor Teen Room!



Week of April 6, 2020
  • The City of St. Charles will be approving our PUD application on Monday night as planned. 
  • Most of the library management team will do a final walkthrough of our building to make sure all of our furniture, fixtures and equipment have been moved out accordingly. 
  • There will be building remediation starting this week to remove any hazardous materials before demolition. 
  • Our construction crew will be prepping the lower level for demolition to begin. 
  • We may begin to see fencing go up later this week into early next week!
