Frequently Asked Questions About Getting and Using a Library Card
Q: Can I use my card at other libraries?
You are eligible to use your library card at any of the 97 member libraries in the SWAN consortium. You also may use your card at any library in Illinois that participates in reciprocal borrowing.
Q: What do I do if I lose my library card?
Please report a lost or stolen card immediately so you will not be held responsible for any items checked out on your card. Apply for a new card in person upon presentation of identification.
Q: What is my PIN?
A PIN is a Personal Identification Number that provides additional confidentiality for your library account. You must type in your PIN to place holds or view your library account. Your library PIN defaults to the last four digits of your phone number. We encourage you to change your PIN for greater security.
Q: Where are your book drops?
The Library has two drive-up book drops in our east parking lot closest to the building.
We also offer four remote book drops.
Remote Book Drops:
For your convenience, remote book drops may be found at four locations. (Our west side book drop location at 1615 W Main St will be temporarily unavailable. For questions, please contact us at (630) 584-0076 ext. 0)
Items returned in the book drops after the Library closes will be checked in the next business day, except for the Wayne location which is picked up only on Monday. All items in the book drops at the start of the day will be checked in with the previous day's date.
Q: How does the Library notify me about materials?
Library patrons are notified by email. Overdue notices will be generated by computer at the following intervals after the due date: 8 days, 18 days, and 42 days (billing notice). After 52 days, overdues are turned over to the Library’s materials recovery service, a credit reporting agency.
