Placing items on hold

 

The St. Charles Library is part of the SWAN consortium giving you direct access to over 9 million items.

  • Log in with your library card number and PIN
  • Search the catalog
  • Select “Place Hold”
  • Choose your pick up location:
    • “St. Charles Public Library”- to pick up inside the library
    • “St. Charles Public Library District Drive-up Window” – to pick up at our drive-up window

 

Picking up Holds 

  • We will notify you by your preferred method (email, text or phone) when your item is ready for pick up. You can also monitor the status of your holds on the SWAN Libraries App.
  • Pick up your materials at the location you have selected
  • Items are held for 7 days.

 

Holds Inside The Library

  • Pick up your holds at the shelves near the welcome desk on the first floor.
  • Check them out at the self-check kiosk or welcome desk.

 

Drive-up Window 

Pick up your holds at the drive-up window, located on the south side of the Library building.

 

Change Pickup Location for Pending Holds

  • Log into your account
  • Select “Titles on Holds” and “Physical Items”
  • On the right hand side of the item, select “Change Pickup Loc.”

 

Choosing Preferred Pick up Location

  • Log into your account
  • Click on “My Preferences” in the Account Settings section on the left
  • Click on the drop down menu for “Preferred Pickup Location”
  • Select the new location using the drop-down menu, and click “Update My Preferences”
  • If the bypass pick up location is set to ON, your hold will always be placed at your Preferred Pickup Location and you will not see a prompt to select a location.
