Library Board Trustee Positions Available

The St. Charles Public Library District is looking for dedicated Library advocates in the community. The library has four open Trustee seats in the upcoming 2019 Consolidated Election to be held on April 2, 2019. Two seats are for a regular term which goes from June 2019 – May 2025 (six years), while the other two seats are to fill appointed roles (June 2019 – May 2021, two years). Candidates are able to choose which of the two terms they prefer.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the stewardship of the St. Charles Public Library, as the Board sets the tax levy, budget, policies, and is an advocate for the Library in the community. Trustees serve on a volunteer basis and are asked to attend monthly Board meetings in addition to occasional committee meetings. 

The Board of Trustees meets monthly at the Library on the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. Support and training is provided by the Library’s Director for those who are considering and would be new to this role.

Elected members to the Board of Trustees will have the exciting opportunity to help shape the future of the St. Charles Public Library and guide it into the next generation, including playing a central role in the planning and execution of a potential renovation project estimated at $13.6 million.

The responsibilities and duties of elected members to the Board of Trustees are as follows:

  • Prepare for, attend and engage in monthly Board Meetings
  • Spend at least 1-2 hours outside of Board Meetings conducting a variety of Library Business (Including, but not limited to writing and responding to e-mail, attending professional development programs, reviewing meeting packets, and attending committee meetings as scheduled)
  • Be knowledgeable about the goals, plans, history, and future of the Library
  • Represent the Library in community events
  • Have a sincere commitment to the purpose and mission of the Library
  • Be informed about library issues through state and national library organizations
  • Be an advocate for the Library in the community

Eligibility and Qualifications

  • Registered voter residing in the St. Charles Public Library District
